LOVE this thing...however...

This is going to be an in depth review, as I just received my xteink4 classic this morning. It took me a good 3 hours to set up. I turned it on out of the box, installed the app on my phone and went to pdfocean to find epubs. I found a Freida McFadden book I haven't read yet, downloaded the epub to my phone, and uploaded the file to the app, which pushed it through to the reader. I jumped on Pinterest, found a wallpaper, and did the same. Super easy!! The font was jagged and not crisp, and a bit large which I couldn't fix, ugh. Buuuuut, I wanted more features so I attempted to flash cross point to it. This was a pain on my MacBook and wouldn't work, I finally found a Reddit comment saying to use your phone as a hotspot, connect your laptop to it, and try that way. SUCCESS!!! I then downloaded the app "read xteink 4" - after tinkering with this for quite some time, I could not figure much out. I couldn't get wallpapers to upload and I didn't want to have to upload to the SIM card or anything. I wanted wireless transfer. So after a good hour, I flashed it back to the original xteink operating system. I had to start from scratch so I checked for updates again, this time it pushed through the licorice software - this is a GREAT update (once I figured it out) - I am able to connect my usb c cord plugged into my phone, to my plugged in xteink. Open the "usb" app on my xteink and files transfer. It took me another hour to figure this out, after I kept trying the original way but all files sat "queued" on the xteink app. Being able to plug a dual end usb c from my phone to my xteink is a huge time saver. And with the licorice update, you can change fonts, sizes, etc. I uploaded my wallpaper and voila!! I LOVE this tiny thing!! HOWEVER...I wish I would have paid the extra $20 and opted for the 4pro with the built in back light. If there isn't ample amounts of light, you can't read on this thing. For an extra $20, the backlight would be well worth it in my opinion. ALSO, sinc

Was very impressed by this

I was skeptical of this at first but figured id try it during prime deals. Well worth it. It is tiny so you're only getting about a paragraph a page. But it is easy to see, the button functionality is easy to navigate. I was able to easily load almost 10,000 books using calibre library in less than an hour. So far the battery has been fantastic. Three days of use and its at 96%. I love that you can use the app on your phone to design and import lock screen images and books. Its Avery simple little eink reader. But if you're looking for something very low profile that can fit in any pocket or small bag, definitely give this one a try. I needed something small, light, and portable enough to throw in a pocket to have with me on an ambulance or in the er that isnt super expensive but still works well.

Great little e-reader.

I bought this XTEink X4 Classic for my wife to take on a trip. I took the advice of many users and immediately installed the Crosspoint Open Source software on it. She loves using it, she finds the size very convenient for carrying around daily, and the e-ink display is clearer than reading a book on her cell phone. The battery life is outstanding, she used it pretty heavily for a week on vacation and the battery did not run out. I love that it is easy to transfer books (using the EPUB format) to the device using a USB drive or from a laptop, unlike her Kindle which makes it very difficult to transfer non-amazon purchased books to it's devices. My biggest pet peeve is the "Pogo" connector. It is a pain to get connected properly for file transfer or charging. If the usb cable twists at all it can easily become dislodged from the device, and the magnets on the connector are not very strong. It also is not a touch screen which is a bit of a learning curve. Lastly it does not have any light source which is normally not a issue but on a red eye flight from Las Vegas to the east coast she decided not to use it as she did not want to have the overhead light on during the flight. If I had it to do over again I would have spent the extra $25 or so and bought the X4 Pro model instead of the classic as it addresses the short comings. The X4 Pro uses a USB-C connector instead of the pogo connector. It does have a touch screen and it has a front light i believe. But no matter which one you get you will find these to be convenient little devices to take on the go!

No USB C is almost a deal breaker.

Rather than going into the reviews that everyone else is giving, which are 100% correct. This is a really good ebook reader. It's small, it works in a weird way and it attaches to the back of your phone so you can use it whenever you want to read. Distraction free. Here's the part you really need to consider: That magnetic attachment replacing the USB-C. I had to play around with a couple of different power cords because depending on how the ends are set up they can actually pull the magnetic attachment off and stop it from charging. I don't think making the magnet stronger is the solution. I think returning to USB-C is the solution. Why would you fix something that isn't broken just to make up one millimeter? Beyond that, and I mean, it's a pretty big pain in the butt when it keeps detaching and your little e-rear doesn't get charged. It's a great device. I also know that they read the reviews and they like to take their customer suggestions seriously and try to implement them. Here's my suggestion. I'm not going to return this device. I'm going to keep it because I have faith you guys are going to come out with one that has USB-C on it so I can get back to normal with what I do with this thing. I'd love it if you would offer me a discount if I turn in my old one for the new model. That would be a pretty sweet deal and it would really go a long way on the faith end of this. Like I said, you really need to consider that little magnetic attachment point. Its a pain in the butt.

Great product

At first I didn't know what to expect or how it would work but I'm very glad I ordered it anyways, it's small and fits nicely in my pocket. I don't put it on the back of my phone but that's because of my phone not the product, so far I've loaded 200 books a 128g micro sd card and has no issue loading them fairly quickly and the battery of this lasts quite a while. You'd probably only have to charge it maybe once a week or every other week depending on how much you use it
