Decent handheld, just not for Vita or above
I feel like this handheld gets a lot of criticism because of the name they gave it. People expect it to play Vita games, which it most certainly will not. Everything up to that, though, works really well. All the 8 and 16-bit systems are obviously fine. PS1 work great. PSP runs well, even at 4x upscale. GameCube and Wii work, but some games will have issues or need to run at lower resolutions. Dreamcast works perfectly. PS2 runs ok. You may not be able to upscale all games, but it does a respectable job. Above that, though, I wouldn't bother with. The screen is great for the price. It gets plenty bright and the colors look nice. And 1080p at this size looks really good. It also outputs to TV well via USB-C. It also has one of the little hdmi ports, but I didnt have a way to test that. Controls are actually really good. The dead and face buttons are squishy (in a good way) and very quiet. The sticks are a good size and have great travel. They feel quite nice. The shoulder buttons are both microswitches (no analog triggers). They are clicky and LOUD. If you've used the 477m, they're a bit louder than those. They're decent buttons, just a bit noisy. It's pretty hollow on the inside, so some dampening may be possible. Speaking of being hollow, that does give it a cheapish feeling initially. It's a good size and very lightweight. It doesnt have active cooli g, so I assume all the extra room is for airflow. But I feel like the thickness could have been reduced by 1/3 without compromise. My AYN Odin 2 Mini is much thinner, while being vastly more powerful and having active cooling. Overall, it does feel pretty good in the hand. I wish the little intentions on the back were inset a bit more, so my fingers could actually rest on them, though. If they'd dropped the Vita branding and maybe leaned more into PSP, I think this would be more successful. Also, at this price, you're getting close to Retroid territory, which will be a much better experience in every way. Watch for a

Very versatile device. The history of video games at your fingertips.
When I got this, I thought I had bought a ready to run handheld console. On opening the box and turning it on I loved how it looked. The glass front, illuminated thumb sticks, and bright, colorful screen is seamless since it's behind the main glass face. It looks premium and feels pretty good too. I soon found out I had not bought quite what I expected. On booting it up, the initial AI is made up of several large icons that don't do anything. The screen is touchscreen by the way. You are not limited to thumb sticks for navigation. each of the icons caused an error to appear on the screen. This is when I found out that you have to download the emulators you want to use and then the games to play on them. So it's not something you can just pick up and play games on straight away. I had to research online to find out that the initial interface that the handheld boots into is a form of Linux which comes on the included SD Card. There is a second OS, Android. To boot into this, you have to remove the Linux card and restart the device. It will boot into a more familiar Android phone like interface and has apps that will allow you to download your choice of dozens of emulators for all kinds of machines. Some of the emulators require you to find and download images of the original consoles Rom's. You can find them online if you look. But can't be provided on the device due to licensing. If you haven't guessed already. this handheld console is not straight forward. It requires some research to get up and running. If you have the patience, then it is a lot of fun. The screen is great, sound is good. If you are getting this for a young child, be prepared to have to learn how to set it up for them. I really like it and am glad I got it. I missed out on consoles as a kid because the games were too expensive. Being able to play them on my handheld device is a treat. It's not only console games but also old 8- and 16-bit computer games, coin op machines from the 70's, 80's and 90'

Pretty solid, even better with GammaOS though
Picked this up after having a very good experience with the RG476h. I've been less impressed with this handheld, but it's still very solid, as long as you set your expectations appropriately. The screen is great, and the handheld itself feels solid. It's not as heavy as I'd expected, which is a bonus. Getting things setup was pretty easy. It boots into Linux by default, via the pre-installed MicroSD card. I didn't mess around with the Linux stuff very much, but I could see that being a nice bonus for some folks. I've never been a huge fan of the default Android software on this brand of handheld, so I decided to give GammaOS a shot, and that improved the experience a ton. I'm sure you could replicate most of the experience in the stock software by installing a different launcher, but it now feels like an actual gaming handheld instead of an Android phone or device that happens to play games. It's a little bit underpowered (hence the 4 stars) if you try to play anything more advanced than PSP games, but it's been fun playing a lot of older games that I either hadn't played in a while or NEVER played (since I never owned a PSP). Overall, pretty happy with this.

Perfect for psp and earlier systems
This is a nice handheld system, and the screen size is what makes this really shine. This has an all glass front with a very responsive touch screen. It's actually very lightweight for its size, which is nice if you plan on playing for extended periods of time. All of the controls work as well as I expected from prior experience with similar devices. This is very easy to use with clear instructions if you are new to this sort of system. It can either run on android which in that state is basically like a tablet with emulator cores or you can run Linux which most of the current handheld devices use and then you dealing with emulation station menu platform which I happen to like. You will need your own game card and roms. If you go into the system folder files, you can see all of the different game systems that this is set to run with the preloaded emulators. I will say psp, and earlier is your best bet, and it will run all of that with ease. Anything after psp would probably require some tinkering with settings to run correctly or will just play poorly, so keep expectations tempered with newer game systems. For what it's worth, n64 is still hard to get working on most devices, and this device is no exception. It's a game by game basis some work fine, and some don't. The screen is beautiful and has a nice vibrant display. The audio can get loud and is nice and clear. This is also a multimedia player handling pretty much any platform. This has a very long-lasting battery and it charges quickly. You can install apps like YouTube or pretty much anything. It's a versatile handheld with a great screen, and I'm happy with what I got.

Its okay, had better handhelds from them.
Not a bad handheld console, but definitely could be better. Got this for my husband who plays and collects handheld gaming consoles, but he wasn't a fan of it. We ended up giving it to our son to play with, and he only plays it occasionally. The Anbernic RG Vita did not come with any games or the Google Play Store, we had to manually download games to it. Its really good with PSP games and works with some PS2 light titles and Nintendo 64 games, but that's about as far as it goes. The controls are okay, the build quality is good, but could be more solid, feels a bit cheaper than others I've bought. The size of it makes it uncomfortable if your playing for a long period of time , you start to really feel it in your hands. Also it was supposed to come with a 64gb sd card, but it came with a 32gb SD card instead. It does have a really nice sized screen and the picture quality is great, very well defined and vibrant. But for the price it's not worth it imo. You could get something much better for just a little bit more money. We really like Anbernic as a brand and love a lot of their products, but this handheld just wasn't it.
