Excellent addition to my kitchen - well worth the price.
Item ordered and received on June 13. First used on June 16 (today, as I write this review). My experience in one word: Excellent. And the 1000 / 6000 grit combination is perfect for my needs. And now, the details. My chef's knife and two paring knives haven't been sharpened for over 10 years now, although I do use a honing steel with these knives. So today, I decided to try my hand at using a whetstone - not quite sure if it would work out. Watched a useful video on YouTube, of course and followed the instructions and tips! Tentatively, I started with my cheaper paring knife so that in case it got messed up, I would not get too upset. I worked first with the 1000 grit and then with the 6000 grit surface. I sprayed water as needed. Finally, I ran the knife a few times against my honing steel. I was EXTREMELY surprised at the sharpness of the knife. Tested it out on a grape, a cherry, and a sheet of A4 paper. Completely satisfied with the result. Overall, I spent about 20 minutes on this knife. The second paring knife and the chef knife followed. With equally amazing results. I now wonder how I managed to use these knives earlier. Sharpening and honing these knives took less time as I was accustomed to the motion. Overall, I spent about 45 minutes to sharpen all three knives. And the result was far better than I expected. So yes: This is definitely a product that deserves maximum stars from me. Currently, the whetstone is enjoying the sunny weather as I have left it outside in the balcony to dry it out. One important point: The supplied rubber base started to slip on the stone counter in my kitchen once the counter got wet. I removed the stone from the base and placed the stone on wet sheets of kitchen towels instead. But this does not take away anything from the superb experience I had with the stone.
