Chose these over the HE1000 Stealth Magnet and (obviously) HD 490 pro. Still own the HD600's
1 year Update: Still the best headphones I've ever listened to and have had no desire to look elsewhere for an "upgrade" (maybe besides the unveiled edition) A small caveat. I eq'd the bass a touch and I think these headphones are just about perfect. Clamping force and comfort, I use them for extended sessions of gaming and listening to music (or youtube) and only after a couple hours do I feel my ears feeling "hot" but not overly bothersome. I was using the HE1000 Stealth Magnets for about two weeks and I would have given those four stars (maybe even five) had I not heard the HE1000se. To compare those two headphones directly, the HE1000 Stealth (referring to them as "Stealth" in this review) have pretty much the same design, styling, comfort as the SE (minus some color differences). Stealth was a bit too energetic and closed in compared to the SE. Sounds are about 25% more spread a part (more diffuse) on the SE. This was noticeable in gaming especially. Sounds felt more spacious and directional on the SE especially in open environments. I play The Last of Us, Resident Evil, watched Avatar for reference. Both headphones reproduce sound accurately. The disassembling of a weapon, reinserting a clip for reloading, gunshots, screams, birds and atmospheric ambience all sound fantastic and real. The Stealth (due to its higher energy - trebel and bass already elevated) made the experience more tiresome and slightly exaggerated for realism. For music this might be tuned to your liking. But for my intended purposes (gaming and listening to tunes) I found the the more neutral and open presentation more appealing, especially for the long haul. I have this paired with the AUNE S17 PRO and LAIV UDAC which are both at least mid-fi amp/dac solutions. Sound is more resolving (pleasant to listen to), sound decay is the best I've heard (think outros to songs where the voice trails....here it trails infinitely), sounds are crisp (I've had a couple jump scares not from loud noises but
One-of-a-kind headphones
These headphones are fantastic in dealing with all genres with ease and refinement like no other pair of cans. They have an incredible soundstage and dynamics, whereas being resolving up to the smallest details without being fatiguing. Having a tuning, which slightly emphasises treble, the tonality does not come across as bright but more life-like. Build quality is superior on these than any of the cheaper Hifimans and is very appreciable. Only one nitpick is the headband: that could have been leather or another premium material, but nevertheless, it's still comfortable and nice. The silver-colored metal accentuates the liveliness of the darker wood perfectly; this might be the most gorgeous Hifiman design yet.

After spending time with many flagship headphones, the HIFIMAN HE1000se stands out as one of the most impressive offerings in the high-end market. It blends exceptional detail retrieval, an expansive soundstage, and a lively yet refined tonality, making it a top-tier choice for critical listening. But how does it compare to some of the best in the industry, including the HIFIMAN Susvara, Meze Empyrean/Elite, and Audeze LCD-4/LCD-5? Let’s break it down. Sound Quality : The HE1000se is crystal-clear, highly detailed, and incredibly fast. It presents an effortless, airy treble, a neutral yet impactful bass, and a well-balanced midrange. Compared to: HIFIMAN Susvara – The Susvara is in a league of its own in terms of refinement and natural timbre. It has a more organic, nuanced, and effortlessly transparent sound, but it requires an incredibly powerful amplifier to shine. The HE1000se, while not as refined, is more efficient and still offers top-tier resolution, making it the better option for most users who don’t want to invest in a speaker-level amp. Meze Empyrean – The Empyrean is warmer, richer, and more relaxed, which makes it great for long listening sessions but sacrifices resolution and speed. The HE1000se is much more resolving and technically proficient, making it the better choice for analytical listening. Meze Elite – The Elite improves on the Empyrean’s detail retrieval and balance, but still leans toward a smooth, easygoing sound. The HE1000se, by contrast, has more treble energy and an airier, more revealing presentation, making it feel more transparent and spacious. Audeze LCD-4 – The LCD-4 is darker, with a rich, dense midrange and deep bass, but it’s heavier and requires significant amplification.
