As a MGS fan, I really wanted to like this, but there’s a ton of blemishes & defects I can’t ignore
This is another one of the many pieces of official merchandise that FaNaTtik makes on behalf of Konami and other owners of popular franchises, and it’s up to the high standard I've come to expect from them when it comes to the presentation and packaging. In this case, you’re getting a Naked Snake ingot, a Kerotan frog enamel pin, a pair of FOX Unit dog tags, a FOX Unit sticker and an art card, which all arrive nicely presented inside of a themed cardboard box that doubles up as a display case. I do really like the stuff they’ve included in this set, but the main item, the metal ingot, is pretty rough compared to the standard I'd expect from official merch at this price point. The back of the ingot has some nice official art with a glossy clear coating, but there are two very distracting bumps or bubbles in the surface that really detract from the art. There’s also a chunk missing on the top of the ingot from where they’ve been sanding it to shape it and clean off the sanding scratches, but they did a lousy job and didn’t actually remove all of the sanding marks on the rim of the ingot. Most of the other items in the set are made to a better standard, unless you count the sticker that’s cut off-centre in my set, and while the set is generally okay from a distance. It’s a bit disappointing if you’re someone who likes to handle or look closely at your collectibles from time to time. Like all of the limited edition items from FaNaTtik, I’m not a massive fan of the fomo marketing with the limited number of pieces, as it doesn’t add any actual value, except for an artificial sense of scarcity intended to drive impulse purchases. All they’ve done for this set is apply a numbered thermal sticker onto the bottom of the box, so it doesn’t really detract from the set, though it does feel like a bit of a missed opportunity to add the unique number to the dog-tags, which are completely blank on the back. The £39.99 asking price would be on the higher end but tolerable if th
