Honest thoughts
First mp3 player I’ve had, absolutely love it. Works great with all my devices, including Bluetooth! I installed almost 2k songs and I can’t get enough of it. Only down side is that playlists a lot put manually in the mp3 and the earbuds that come with it is not that great
Try it out guys
Guys please no cap this might be the bestttt iPod classic dupe. Great sound out of the speaker. Literally listening with it right now and the sound is so crisp. It connect seamlessly with the Bose qc headphones but i guess it’s finicky with apple airpods but it’s because of apples connection with non apple devices so it doesn’t reflect with the mp3 player. Songs is so easy to put in , I used my MacBook and it was seamless with a usb to usb cable . And the themes for it is also super customizable. Just try it out , it won’t be a regrettable purchase.
Definitely worth buying
Bought this for my son who wanted an iPod, he’s going retro 😁 First impressions. Packaging is really nicely done. Thought has gone into the graphics which gave it an old school feel. The player itself is smaller than the IPod, but perfect for using and light weight. The display screen, font size and type is spot on. To navigate the OS there’s a simple jog wheel with enter and back. What’s more is required really. Finally the file structure is simple android, so when you plug into your PC it recognises it as a drive and you can simply drag and drop files into the relevant folders. It will also play Photos and Video Files too. 10/10.
Waste of time.
Worked fine for a couple of months. Now internal storage flagging faults. Have factory reset and formatted unit but it can't register it's cleared storage capacity, so cannot copy files onto it. Very disappointing - not really a replacement of iPod classic, simply lacks the reliability.
Don’t get this unless you feel comfortable opening up electronics to replace the internal SD card
Update: SD Card died in less than a week of owning the Y1. Great idea for a device but poorly executed. I’m going to try to open it up, replace the SD card with a better one, and hope it lasts me a while. If you don’t feel comfortable opening this device up, get something else. Original Review: Has a few quirks but it’s only $50. For the price, I’m happy with it. Hopefully they make an aluminum and glass version in the future and work out the Bluetooth bugs - Bluetooth occasionally messes up and your songs will sound robotic for a couple of seconds. Works better with my Beats Flex than my Google Pixel Buds Pro 2. Happens maybe every 3rd or 4th song. Wired buds work fine - the volume on your Bluetooth headset is separate from the volume on the Y1 itself. It’s better to think of it as the volume can go to 200% max. 100% is controlled on your Bluetooth headset and another 100% on the Y1. - If you add podcasts to the podcast folder, they appear in your music list. You have to use the audiobook folder. Not ideal but it works - battery life is better than expected. After ~5 hours of listening with Bluetooth, I’m sitting around 60%
A good iPod replacement!
(I'll be reviewing this in comparison to an original iPod) Very good. I would recommend this to most people instead of buying an iPod (either vanilla or modded), especially considering the price. I have heard complaints about the included Bluetooth not being great, but in my experience it works just fine. There is no proprietary software you need; you can just transfer files like normal through USB (although I do recommend MusicBee for managing your music library, which supports syncing to this thing like you would an iPod through iTunes). It is very lightweight, and has a pretty bad speaker at the bottom (although the iPod didn't even have a speaker in the first place, so I suppose it's an improvement either way). In terms of DAC and AMP quality, I would say it's at least comparable to an iPod. The best pair of headphones I currently own are the Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 250 ohm, and they run just fine, as well as every other pair of headphones I have. They do come with an included pair of earbuds, but they aren't very good (as to be expected). There are a few grievances I have about it though. - I find the included operating system to not be very good. It displays album artwork very zoomed in for some reason and it doesn't organize music very good. It does not support OPUS codec, which is the best lossy format. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND installing Rockbox (which you can very easily do, and you can always boot back to the original OS), which is a custom operating system for iPods that also works on this. It is open source and highly customizable and adds support for OPUS. I would say it's a must if you buy this thing. - The clickwheel is lacking compared to an original iPod. It's fine on it's own, but once you compare it to an iPod you realize how much more responsive and snappy the latter is. You will have to make a ton of full rotations in order to scroll through your library, while iPod responds to much subtler movements. It is also slightly smaller than an iPod's, which
