Solid Mid‑Tier Wi‑Fi 7 Router But I Wish I’d Spent More
This seems to me to be a highly priced Wi‑Fi 7 router, but in reality, it’s really only a moderate one. Don’t get me wrong, the TP‑Link BE15000 (Archer BE700) is a superior mid‑tier router with excellent stability, strong Qualcomm silicon, and real 6 GHz performance. It’s miles better than the cheap Wi‑Fi 6/7 router I tried before this. “Budget” models were only good for a couple of devices at a time before speed tanks and connections are lost. The BE700 handles dozens of devices without flinching. Latency is low, 4K/8K streaming is smooth, and the 6 GHz band is legitimately fast. Setup through Tether app was painless, and the couple firmware updates have been stable. However, once you spend a few days with it, you start to realize this is the minimum level of hardware you need for real Wi‑Fi 7 performance. I had two growing problems to be solved by WiFi-7: the growing complexity of my home network AND the Internet. WiFi-7 only works with an upgrade to the cable modem. I was thinking of upgrading to microwave (opportune time to switch media modem) but the same trees blocking the first cell phone towers were still a problem. BE700 is enough to fix my network but zero growth headroom with slight bandwidth issues Day One. Best Wi‑Fi 7 routers are ones with real 6 GHz radios, high‑end Qualcomm/Broadcom silicon, and multi‑gig ports such as the Netgear RS700S, ASUS GT‑BE98 Pro, and Amazon Eero Max 7. Best is TP-Link BE9300 WiFi 7 Router (Archer BE550) if you just have a PC, phone, and couple smart home devices. The US ban is NOT a big deal. The FCC’s router freeze isn’t a long‑term disruption; most major vendors already had required documentation from Europe’s earlier security reviews. Roughly the first 25% of models are already approved or will clear review within 2–3 months and reaching about 85% of best‑selling routers should take well under 4–6 months. Easy to set up, great coverage, works with OneMesh extenders
I decided it was time to retire my three-pod Plume mesh setup, which I was becoming increasingly disenchanted with, and opted for the TP-Link BE15000 (why it is also called BE700, I don't quite understand.) In any event, the BE15000 installation went without a hitch, with the onboarding instructions both in print and in TP-Link's Tether app, easy to follow. I did have to edit the router's MAC address to match the outgoing router's, a dance I've done many times before, so that my ISP would be happy. It worked. I have the router on a top closet shelf on one end of my 2000sf house and get great coverage within the house. As with the Plume setup, and despite having one of the pods plugged in on the other end of the house, the signal in my garage and driveway was weak to non-existent. But I then added TP-Link's AX-1500 Extender, which forms a mesh network with the BE15000 using a single SSID, and now I have better coverage than ever before. The control panel of the BE15000 is easy to use and provides a lot of information I was missing before. I especially like the ability to set a schedule for the lights on both the router and extender to turn off - for the router, in a closet, it doesn't really matter, but the extender is in my bedroon and I wanted it dark at night. The Tether app works well to control both devices, even allowing me to monitor things when away from home, once I signed up for the TP-Link cloud feature. I did subscribe to the optional service for intrusion blocking, something Plume had (but required an even more expensive subscription.) One thing missing, though, is ad blocking at the router, so I installed pihole on a NAS and use that for DNS, which works well. Speed is fine - I have 1Gbps fiber Internet service and get the full bandwidth. I do like the looks of the router, rather than looking like an overturned spider it's a sleek tower, though I find the long row of LEDs to be somewhat silly.
Amazing and Powerful Router for 6 Ghz
Bought the BE700 router recently on Amazon Prime Day of 2025. This router is AMAZING. The only let down and I didn't know this after the fact is that 2.4 and 5 Ghz are using 2x2 or 2T and 2R antennae each. 6 Ghz band is using 4x4 or 4T4R antennae. If your devices or heavy data using network is primarily using 5Ghz, pick another router. I got lucky all of my heavy data use devices for SMB, streaming purposes can and are using Wifi 7, while only one streaming device (our Nvidia Shield Pro) uses Wifi 5. Can't complain because it's actually possible now for me to seamlessly stream 4k anime and movies through wifi from my SMB server. Setup was super easy with the router itself. The client devices, definitely not and I had to test, reconfigure, install new drivers, update Windows 11 to 24H2 preview. S24 Ultra setup for Wifi 7 was just as easy and it took the 320 Mhz, and MLO networks like a champ, but I'd say the 6Ghz on 320 Mhz bandwidth was definitely faster. I've also turned on OFDMA and MU-MIMO and I can definitely tell from my gaming that my latency is so much improved with those on. After all of the client devices setup, my gaming PC is connected at rock steady 4k up/ 4k down Mbps. That's 4x as fast as a usual Cat 6 cable network! My server is connected at 3.8k~3.2k down / 3k~2.4k up. Despite setting up MLO, I've setup the router to use 320Mhz bandwidth (double the bandwidth of Wifi 6). Both features have to be setup manually which are the smoking gun features of Wifi 7. It's like my PC and server are connected directly with USB 3.0 and this is the first time I could max out my backup and SMB hard drives over air at about 200MBps! Not to mention, whenever I take some videos off my S24 Ultra and offload it to my PC, It's also almost like connecting my phone and PC over USB 3.0 speed (slightly slower). When I first unboxed the TP-Link Archer BE700, it looked like something out of a modern architecture magazine - sleek, minimalist, and clean with all six antennas tucked inside its shell. No spider-legs here. It's surprisingly compact for a tri-band 15Gbps router, and setting it up took less than 10 minutes thanks to TP-Link’s Tether app. The QR code on the back brings you right into the configuration flow, and soon enough, I had three networks (2.4GHz, 5GHz, 6GHz) broadcasting across my house. Let’s talk performance. This router is fast. Standing in the next room with a Wi-Fi 7-enabled device (like the S24 Ultra), I was pulling 850 Mbps from my gigabit fiber. From the opposite end of the house, speeds were still north of 450 Mbps - all without a mesh extender. The coverage, thanks to beamforming and internal antenna tuning, is outstanding. And with a 10G WAN port, 2.5G LAN, and three 1G LAN ports, it can handle even heavy-duty wired setups. What really sets the BE700 apart from other routers on the market and what actually sold me on this one is its future-ready architecture. Multi-Link Operation (MLO), 4K-QAM, and 320 MHz support on the 6GHz band mean it’s prepped for high-density streaming, gaming, and AR/VR traffic - assuming your devices can keep up. It also supports TP-Link’s EasyMesh for expanding coverage later without swapping out your whole setup. That said, not everything is perfect. For one, Wi-Fi 7 device compatibility is hit-or-miss right now. My Pixel 9 Pro and Galaxy S25 Ultra struggled to connect to the 6GHz BE network at first. This seems to be a broader firmware maturity issue - I read other users' reviews online and they have noted similar problems with other TP-Link Wi-Fi 7 routers. If you're buying this for instant Wi-Fi 7 support, it might be worth waiting for a couple firmware updates. There’s also a lack of nuanced access controls. You can’t set per-device rules that allow LAN-only access without internet, which is a letdown for anyone who w
