Wish I'd bought it sooner

I have to admit, power supplies aren't supposed to be sexy. They're supposed to sit there and unobtrusively provide juice to all of the components of your computer, without question. You're not supposed to notice them. When they stop doing that, it's time to buy a new one, right? So when my computer with a 12 year old power supply started randomly shutting off, I figured it was time to upgrade (it's lasted me through a couple rebuilds). I didn't realize fanless power supplies were a thing until I started looking at power supply reviews (who in their right mind actually does research into power supplies?). The Seasonic brand was highly rated by multiple websites, not just for power supplies with fans, but also their fanless power supplies (although I'd never heard of them before). Also their efficiency was top notch, as well as their warranty. What's not to love? Well, the price is kind of high. I guess you get what you pay for. And what do you get? An unbelievable silence! I knew my old power supply was the loudest part of my computer, but I didn't realize how loud until I installed the Seasonic. Now I can barely tell it's on. I didn't notice an "electrical hum" like some other reviews complain about (if it's there, I can't hear it above the 500rpm case fan). It's also much more efficient than my old power supply, which I didn't think was a concern, until I measured the vampire drain. My old power supply constantly used 3-4 watts when the computer was off, so I always made sure to flip the power supply switch to the off position to conserve electricity when I wasn't using the computer. The Seasonic draws less than half a watt when the computer is off (I couldn't even measure it), which is a huge bonus. If you're not in the habit of turning off your power supply, you end up saving 2-3 kWh a month. Not a huge amount when you look at your monthly electric bill, but over the course of the 10-year lifetime of a power supply you're talking $20-50 (depending on the price o

Elle répond aux attentes, même si elle n'est peut être pas indispensable (voir commentaire)

Utilisée pour monter un NAS "DIY", je voulais une alim haut de gamme (fiabilité, certification Platinum) et silencieuse (fanless), même si les 500W de puissance sont inutiles pour moi, sachant que le rendement d'une alim n'est pas optimal à faible charge. En pratique : - connectique : toute la panoplie d'une alim classique, entièrement modulaire ici. C'est un "plus" par rapport à des alims de très faible puissance (a priori mieux adaptée à des NAS) mais dont la connectique est limitée. - consommation (mesurée à la prise) : testée avec une carte mère à base d'un ancien processeur Core i5 4570S (config = 1 SSD + 16 Go DDR4 + 2 ventilos, sans carte graphique externe), le système consomme environ 26W. Et avec un processeur Intel N100 à la place, on tombe à 15W. Bien sûr, si on connecte plusieurs disques durs, la conso monte lorsqu'ils sont actifs. J'ai mesuré environ 7W par disque avec des HDD mécaniques à 7200 t/m, conso qui tombe à 1W par disque lorsqu'ils sont en veille (un compromis étant à trouver pour ménager les disques en évitant de nombreuses transitions marche/arrêt...) A noter que le test de la même config avec une alim 450W certifiée Bronze (be quiet!) a montré une conso quasi identique (à 1W près). La certification Platinum n'est donc pas un critère si on ne tire pas sur l'alim. Je m'y attendais un peu :) - chauffe : ne sollicitant absolument pas l'alim, elle ne chauffe pas du tout dans mon cas. - bruit : aucun, ni de coil while (ouf...). Maintenant, pour être honnête, une alim semi-passive aurait fait la même chose ! En conclusion : un très bon produit, mais pas forcément un "game changer" pour autant. Le prix du silence et de la tranquilité ? :)

Great PSU with a couple of caveats

Since this PSU has no fan, it is completely silent. I was worried that a fanless PSU would make the inside of the case hotter, but the GPU/CPU temps actually dropped several degrees after installing it. Apparently, even without a fan, this PSU generates less heat than the Cooler Master PSU that came with my Omen 30L. If you are getting this PSU because you want to decrease cable clutter in your case, you'll be disappointed. If anything, there was more cable clutter after replacing a non-modular Cooler Master PSU with the Seasonic PSU. Additionally, the cable from the CPU to the PSU needed to be a couple of inches longer. Actually, when I had the PSU installed by Best Buy (which I don't recommend), they put the PSU in upside down so the CPU cable plugged into the PSU closer to the backside of the case. That was irritating, because according to the instructions, the PSU needs to be installed right side up. After paying Best Buy to install it, I reinstalled it myself with the right side up and was able to get the PSU to reach, but it was kind of stretched. Also, I had to turn the SSD around in the mount (i.e., so the plug-ins on the SSD are facing the backside of the case), because the SATA cables do not have right angle connectors. The way Best Buy installed it (i.e., with the plug-ins on the SSD facing the frontside), the case could still be closed but the cable was smashed up against the glass. Overall, this is a great PSU and if silence is your main concern, I highly recommend it.
