Celebratory Champagne Gold and a Great Typing Feel
This Montech MKey Pro Newegg 25th Anniversary Limited Gold Edition Mechanical Gaming Keyboard was designed for enthusiasts and collectors. I'm not a keyboard collector, but I do like mechanical keyboards. I'm more of a Newegg enthusiast. My husband discovered Newegg about 15-20 years ago and turned me onto them, and the best computer I've ever owned came from Newegg and lasted me almost 10 years before my son busted the screen recently. I'm a little confused by why they went with gold for the 25th anniversary, since 25th anniversaries are traditionally silver and 50th anniversaries are gold. But, I guess gold makes for a more unique looking keyboard. I haven't seen another design quite like this, and I think it looks good. The color was actually a pleasant surprise. In the listing photos and on the box, the alphanumeric keycaps look like a blingy, solid yellow gold. In person, they're a much more subtle shimmery champagne gold that leans more light brown than yellow. I think it looks more refined while still fitting the celebratory occasion. This shade also pairs especially nicely with the black frame and transparent crystal-style keys. I really like the RGB lighting around the keys too. I counted 22 lighting modes with everything from flashing and moving wave effects to solid lighting. The transparent keys make some of the lighting effects especially noticeable. The multifunction knob is another great feature. It turns smoothly, and there's distinct tactile feedback when changing modes, so I can actually feel the change. It's a nice addition that fits with the more premium feel of the keyboard. This is one of the nicest keyboards I've used in terms of feel. The Gateron G Pro 3.0 Brown switches have a nice tactile spring to them without making the keys difficult to press. There's a satisfying mechanical clack when I type that makes me think of those scenes in movies where someone is urgently typing away at a computer. The sound seems consistent across most of the ke

Nice brown switches! Gold keys don't match pictures; very expensive, lighting modes disappointing.
I usually get MONTECH brand stuff for monitor mounts and not keyboards but this is a nice expansion on their products, I guess. Newegg is one of those online tech stores I used to love but they changed and aren't what they used to be. This weird combination results in a $150 keyboard that both looks disappointing compared to the product pictures and is severely overpriced, but also creates a weird conversation piece that no one expects to see. The gold keys of the keyboard bother me the most because they look shiny and golden in the pictures on the product listing and the box but they look dull and brownish in reality and much less shiny. What I do like is the feel of the keys because they use brown switches which are the tactile type I prefer. Other aspects of the keyboard are in line with the current quality you can expect from the mid to high tier; tri-mode connectivity with the dongle hidden below the Montech logo magnetic hatch - though i don't like that this storage position costs space that could have gone to another key. There's PgUp, PgDown and Home but no end, which is what that space could have been used for. There's a dial that can be used to control the volume and lighting. Switches and USB-C port are at the left side back wall, and the cable comes with a regular plug and not a right angle one. It comes with a separate keycap and switch puller, with the switch puller saying MONTECH on it and it being considerably higher quality than the type that usually comes with keyboards like this so if you're wondering where the extra $50+ is going, you can blame it on that! With that being said $150 is absurdly overpriced for this. It is QMK/VIA but the lighting modes that are there are very limited and they don't even enable the lit reactive mode that most keyboards like that would have. The box says there are extra keycaps included but there weren't any and no extra switches were included either. I feel like all these mistakes deserve more than a star taken off,

Very nice RGB mechanical keyboard with a couple small gripes.
I ordered this mechanical keyboard for use in my personal PC and gaming setup. I've been using a full sized keyboard with a numerical pad for over a decade and had forgotten how much easier it is to type on this style of keyboard. I have always preferred a mechanical-feeling board to the more modern quiet designs and this one does not disappoint there. The keystrokes are smooth and have plenty of clack to them. The keys aren't overly loud but you certainly know they've been pressed. My wife can't hear the sound of my typing if the TV is on in the next room but I can hear the keystrokes just fine, even with music on. There are multiple ways to connect the device to your PC or Mac and there is a very reasonable amount of lighting options to choose from. I find my typing on this size keyboard has improved much quicker than expected and my overall skill and fluency have returned from my years taking typing in business class in 7th grade, heh. I suppose it feels very close to the size and type of mechanical keyboards that I learned on so I am quite pleased with that result. My only slight gripe with the keyboard has to do with the ways the keys are connected to the board. The pegs obscure the words on almost all of the keys in one way or another and I feel like they could have done a better job at preventing this. It doesn't much effect my ability to find the keys but it might be a much bigger issue for others. Overall, I am very pleased with the design and function of this mechanical keyboard. Despite it being a little on the high side price-wise, I still would consider it to be a good value for the money.

Great wireless performance, clacky, and good RGB
I will say, I was hesitant on how the gold coloring would look in person on the keycaps but its more subtle than I expected which is absolutely my preference. I was worried it would've looked a bit tacky in person but I don't see it that way at all while it's in front of me. It feels pretty light in the hands which through me off especially when I compare it to my all metal keyboard that I have. Unfortunately if you want wireless performance, you need a plastic housing so the signal can go through it. As I was testing the sound profile, it definitely leans toward the clacky spectrum of things. The Gateron keys have a very subtle tactile bump on them and it's quite pleasant. The scroll wheel is fantastic though, It has some LEDs on them that look nice but being able to control my volume is extremely convenient as I'm constantly lowering and increasing it. Clicking on them always you to quickly change the presets on the RGB and if you press on it again allows you to go to a "zoom" mode (same as holding down CTRL and moving the scroll wheel). I wish that pressing on it allowed you to mute the volume quickly. I haven't tried BT mode but with the USB dongle (that's conveniently hidden behind the emblem on the right of the keyboard with magnets) the wireless performance feels on par with it on USB mode. I feel no difference or delay at all. Theres also a convenient light indicator on the left side that lets you know how much battery is left. Super happy with how the keyboard is. It's not to my preference when it comes to how the keys sound as I prefer a more creamy thoccy sound (which this is not) but it does feel pleasant to type on.

Great size and feel, but the RGB doesn't light up the legends the way you'd expect
I've had this about two weeks now, using it for both work and gaming, and overall I'm happy with it. But I want to lead with the one thing that actually bugs me. The lighting. On most RGB boards the legends on the keycaps are translucent, so the light shines through and you can read the keys in a dark room. These caps aren't transparent enough for that. What you get instead is a glow spilling out from underneath the keys. It looks good, genuinely, and the underglow effect is nice with the gold trim, but it doesn't do the practical thing lighting is supposed to do. If you're typing in a dim room and need to find a key, the RGB isn't helping you. That's a real miss for a board at this price. Second thing, and this one's more of a heads-up than a complaint: the Windows key was locked out of the box. I thought it was defective. Turned out it's FN + Windows key to toggle it, which I only found by Googling, because nothing in the box tells you that. Once I knew, I actually thought it was a smart feature. Being able to lock the Windows key means no more getting yanked out of a fullscreen game mid-fight. Just document it somewhere, Montech. Everything else has been good. The 75% layout is the reason I bought it and it delivered. Arrows and a function row without a numpad eating a third of my desk. Took a couple of days to stop reaching for the Delete and ENTER keys in the wrong place and now it feels normal. The board has enough weight that it doesn't slide around when I'm typing fast. The look is what sold me and it holds up in person. The gold reads more champagne than gaudy, which I was worried about from the product photos. Brown switches are the right middle ground. You feel a clear bump when the key actuates but it's not the loud clack of a blue. Fine for a shared room. And it's hot-swappable, so if I change my mind I'm not stuck. Two weeks in: I'd buy it again. The lighting limitation is annoying but it's a cosmetic versus functional tradeoff, not a defect. Just go i
