High‑End Android Handheld, Charger Compatibility Is Picky
Compared to the lowest‑tier version of this handheld, I think this mid‑tier model with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage is worth more attention. One convenience is that this version includes a fingerprint reader, while the 8GB/128GB variant does not. However, this handheld—like other Ayaneo units I’ve tried—is picky about chargers. I tested it with a 140W GaN charger and a 45W GaN charger, and the charge LED would blink from white to red while never charging. Then I tried a 30W PPS charger, which worked fine, along with a 20W USB‑C phone charger. You’ll know it’s charging properly when the small LED stays solid red, and it turns white once it’s done. This handheld can also overheat quickly if you leave the temporary plastic cover on and accidentally block the vents on the back or side. This happened to me during setup when I placed it on a pillow for a few minutes; it shut down and wouldn’t turn on for several hours. Definitely remove that plastic sheet and always place it on a solid, flat surface to avoid blocking the active cooling vents. That being said, this handheld is not a toy and feels high‑quality. It has back buttons you can map, but you must use the Ayaneo layout instead of the Xbox layout in the Ayaneo app. I do wish the right‑side buttons were quieter, but they are clicky and a bit loud. The screen supports a 144Hz refresh rate, which you can lower in the settings, and it has good color despite not being OLED. I also wish the screen were less prone to fingerprints, and you’ll need to be mindful of reflections since it’s quite glossy. It’s a little heavy but has a comfortable shape, though I wouldn’t recommend it for a child for long gaming sessions. You can connect it to a monitor through the USB‑C port or a USB‑C to HDMI adapter, and you can pair Bluetooth controllers like an Xbox Series X controller. Android has a wide range of emulators available, and I was able to run a variety of games, but emulation isn’t perfect and may require trial and error. O
