The Peak of my 20+ Year Gaming Journey
I've now owned this monitor for over a month, and feel like I can rate it honestly. I've been an avid gamer since the early 2000s. I've spent probably close to 100,000 hours, and easily upwards of $100k on games and gaming hardware, including gaming consoles, gaming laptops, gaming TVs, desktops, bleeding-edge hardware, and monitors. I've gamed on every kind of monitor in existence (except VA), including CRTs (wish I was old enough to know how peak they really were), LCDs, TNs, LEDs, IPSs, and OLEDs. When I was younger, I always prioritized achieving the lowest latency possible. This led to me getting the highest refresh rate TN panels available. I got 90Hz monitors, 120Hz monitors, 144Hz monitors, 240Hz monitors, 360Hz monitors, and 540Hz monitors when they first came out. I could always tell a difference (I don't know how anyone can't), and I was happy, despite the colors being pretty washed out. What mattered to me was being the quickest and best I could possibly be, no matter the cost. In recent years, I've cared less about being the quickest, and more about actually appreciating the visuals of the games I've been playing. I was always so obsessed with speed, I'd forgotten how beautiful they could actually be. This monitor is, by far, the most gorgeous piece of eye candy I've ever seen. I've gamed on other OLEDs, 4k Plasma TVs, yet nothing looks quite as good as this in a dark room. It's difficult to describe just how cool it is for the edges of the monitor to literally disappear in the dark, leaving nothing but floating image. It feels like magic. But the coolest thing, especially for me, is that I didn't have to sacrifice speed or latency for image quality. This monitor provides the literal best of both. I've owned the ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP for the past couple of years, and tried many expensive 4k monitors in my time, yet this monitor's speed and image quality leaves me more than satisfied with both. I don't know if it's the glossy coat, but it somehow fe
