PA27UCX-K: Good for prosumers who want to grade HDR video for Youtube etc.
This is about the Asus Proart PA27UCX-K. I write this because I had to invest a lot of time to get the necessary information for this purchase, many online reviews in this space are commercially biased. I am not an expert but an enthusiast, and this is a monitor for enthusiasts who create video for small screens (phones, tablets, PCs, the odd TV) and who have a fixed aesthetic idea to create HDR videos, even though at this point this does not make commercial sense because few of your potential viewers will have an HDR-capable device. If you are a professional, and your target platforms for your HDR content are cinema, Netflix distribution etc. then you need a professional-grade HDR reference monitor, which will cost you more than $ 30,000. The great thing about the "prosumer" wave of HDR monitors that has been released since 2019 is that they cost only 10 percent as much, or even less if you find a deal. If you are a Windows user, you will need this as a second screen that sits on your desk next to a cheaper monitor that displays the user interface of your video editing software. The user interface monitor can be a cheaper model: It does not need HDR capabilities, although 4K would be nice. If your desk space is limited like mine, 27 inches is attractive as a common size for both these monitors, otherwise the PA32UCX-PK is similar but in 32 inches, somewhat superior in coverage of the REC.2020 gamut, and more expensive of course. Why do you need a second screen, and why do you need a special screen for HDR? Because HDR content differs from "normal", SDR content in being able to show a lot of detail in the shadows at the same time as brilliant highlights. HDR monitors need to have fine-grained control of the backlight to do this, which is expensive to build. Manufacturers can go either the FALD LCD (aka mini LED) route like in the PA27UCX-K, or the OLED route. As of summer 2021, LG has released the first HDR OLED PC monitor, but it appears to be an experimental produ
