Small, quiet, and it works
Works awesome. Small and quiet. Do take care to use lower power M2 SSDs to avoid issues if like me you are using for for 6x4TB M2 SSDs.
Good, but could be great! Purchase onsale @ $199 or less
I believe an actual purchase and the price paid both inform value and try to include the price paid in all my reviews. In this case, I purchased this item myself for $199 on August 15th and received my Prime delivery on August 20th. First off, if you are reading this, you prolly know that this is a compact, 6 bay NVME NAS. But JIC you don't have all the specs memorized, It's powered by the N150 CPU, with 12GB of SOLDERED RAM. There are dual 2.5GB I226 ports and it has USB A/C, Wifi and HDMI. The internal 45w PSU appears to be both a blessing and a curse, more on that later. Speed: Lets get this out of the way first. Any NVME you stick in here will operate at a tiny fraction of it's potential speed. This is not a fault of the Beelink, but a limitation of the Intel chip. However, in most cases the 2.5GB NIcs will be the bottleneck and that is OK. This doesn't need a bank of QSFP28 ports for it's intended purpose. The reduced drive performance also helps with thermals in a round-about way as the drives will never put off the heat they would if running at full beans. IMO this device is fully adequate for $200 NAS duties and really quite a bit more. The N-series CPU is an evolution of the old Atom CPU, but is immensely better. Just be aware that there is only so much power to squeeze out of a 6w chip, so plan your containers and VMs accordingly. Form Factor: The design is a win for sure as this looks like a small apple or ubiquiti device. Functionally, the arrangement of the heatsink and drives is setup for chimney effect when cooling, which is another win. However, this is also an area that I wish saw some improvements. Even without increasing the size of the device appreciably, this could have used the ubiquitous and more powerful 80mm fans, but instead uses a 1w 60mm(?) fan that moves very little air. This is compounded by there being almost no airflow at the bottom of the case, where the CPU and the rest of the MB and IO ports reside. This means that with the case on
Do no buy, incapable of functioning as advertised.
Item is incapable of functioning as advertised. Due to hardware limitations it CANNOT run 6 NVMe drives simultaneously. They device overheats and fails. Constant issues. Poor support. Great in concept, but utter disappointment once I got it and tried to use it.
Smallest high capacity home NAS available.
Great product placement for a low entry point home NAS host. Plenty of space with six 4TB m.2 ssds (5 if you want to install the OS to one m.2) TrueNAS community gives you have zraid protection, spare 'disk' etc.
Using it for network storage
Nice little computer. Still getting it setup to store movies and music on. Planty of room to add more storage. So far easy to use.
