Great little plein air set. Now I will always have moist gouache out in the field!
This is great to have if you like to go Plein air painting. I can just take a few colors out of my big set and pop them right into this travel case. The nice thing is that it is so difficult to use gouache out in the field and keep it moist. Jelly gouache is the perfect alternative. I still prefer professional gouache, but for sketches it is great. It seals very well, and tight, although I admit I haven’t stored it on its side. I was kind of afraid to! The lid is tight but, when I open it there is a ring of color from the edges of the cups, on the inside of the lid, so if I tip it, I am wondering if I would have a lot of paint on the inside of the lid. I don’t know. But if I find out I will come back to update. So far I am traveling flat! I find it to be good value for the money. I think 6-12 colors is great; the paint capacity is fine for me, as I like to mix my own colors for color harmony anyway. The only thing is that I wish I could buy empty cups, especially the twin cups. I don’t have those and it would be nice to be able to fill a few up. I don’t want to buy another large set of gouache. The other thing is I also wish they offered, replacement cups of gouache or the pouches to refill. The set is easy to use. There are no directions to put it together and that takes a minute to figure out. Also when storing if your cup doesn't fit, flip it upside down and slide it over the paint set. The back of the cup should be on the top of the lid or it won’t fit.
