This is a review for: Chalkola Professional Watercolor Paint Set - 48 Semi Moist Water Colors Paint Adult Set, XL Pans | With Painting Brushes, Water Color Pad & Art Supplies | Suitable for Adults, Kids, Beginner & Artists, $49.95 at time of writing. This watercolour paint set features 48 semi-moist watercolours in extra-large pans, an 8 pack of paint brushes, 2 water brushes, a pencil, a kneaded eraser, a black acrylic marker, a swatch sheet, and a 20 page watercolour pad. The colours that this set includes are quite pretty! I have included swatches of all of them on the included swatch sheet and separately on black paper. The black sides of the swatch sheet were hydrophobic, I'm assuming because of the toner used, so I found the swatches on those sides weren't accurate. Luckily I had some black kraft paper around and did separate swatches on there. I used a chalk marker by the same brand to write the names of the colours. This set includes 30 "basic" colours, 8 metallic colours, 6 fluorescent colours, and 4 iridescent colours, covering a nice range of colours; some bright, some natural, and some more subdued. The paints are semi-moist, so they don't need activation with a lot of water like dry pans do. Just a little spritz is more than enough to activate the paints. The variation in colour with the addition of more or less water is quite varied and looks as expected. The pans are quite large. They're easily twice the size of a usual square pan. I was hoping the pans would have the colour names on the sides or bottoms, but they do not. They can be easily taken out of the kit if you want to take a few in a travel kit, but there is no easy way to bring them all to paint on the go unless you bring the whole box. I've found it easiest to keep the paints in the box while not in use. Each tray has a thick plastic cover, but they are pretty big to leave out. The pencil is as expected. It's a standard pencil. This is a pretty substantial set with everything you could need to begin or continue watercolour painting. It doesn't just include the basics to get started, the set has a variety of brushes and colours so that you can really explore and discover your own style. The set contains 48 colours and each is twice the size of the blocks you get in the standard watercolour tins. There are various different brushes, including water pen brushes for when you don't have access to a water pot. These have been great for travelling with. There is also a large pad of watercolour paper, a pencil, sponge, marker pen and kneaded rubber as well as an information sheet with a troubleshooting guide on the back. I cannot overstate how impressed I am by this set. The paint colours are so bright and quick to use and the paper is of a really high quality. Each paint colour is in an individual plastic tray, meaning you can rearrange the two trays to suit your preferences or select only the ones that you need. At the time of ordering, the set cost £39.99, which at first can seem expensive but, for what you get and the quality of the materials, is actually very reasonable. The set is very nicely presented, with everything fitting neatly into a box and organised within smaller boxes inside. Little details have been thought about, such as red ribbons attached to the top tray of pain, to make it easy to lift this off and access the colours beneath. Overall, I would definitely recommend this set, whether you are looking to try something new, top up your supplies or you're looking for a gift that is ready to wrap and go.
Great set, especially when on sale
My daughter loved this paint set. She's the crafty kid and stuff like this occupies her for hours, if not days, at a time. You get 48 different colors and then you can mix them to basically make endless different combinations. You also get 10 brushes that have different types of tips and in different widths. You get 2 water brush pens, 1 water soluble pencil, an eraser, a sponge and a black marker. The colors also come in pans, or basically tiny paint trays that are semi-moist. These work even after you're done with them for the day. They don't dry out for your next use. The colors are 30 basic shades, 8 metallic, 6 bright fluorescent and 4 iridescent. The combinations are endless. The set is typically priced at $49.95, but on sale now for $39.99. For $40, it's a pretty good gift if you have someone that is into this sort of thing.
