A Serious Diagnostic Scanner That Goes Far Beyond Reading Check-Engine Codes
I’ve used plenty of basic OBD2 scanners, and this LAUNCH X431 CRP919 is in a completely different category. This is the kind of tool I reach for when I want actual diagnostic capability instead of just reading a code, clearing it, and hoping the problem stays gone. **The bidirectional control is one of the biggest reasons I like it.** Being able to command supported components directly, like fans, pumps, injectors, electronic parking brakes, and other systems, makes troubleshooting much more efficient. Instead of guessing whether a component is bad, you can often test its response directly from the scanner. The full-system access is another huge advantage. I like being able to get into more than just the engine computer and see ABS, airbag, body, transmission, HVAC, battery management, and other supported modules. The live-data graphing is especially useful when you’re trying to catch an intermittent issue or compare multiple sensor values at once. The 7-inch touchscreen is a good size, and the Android-based interface feels much more like using a dedicated tablet than an old-school handheld scanner. Auto VIN recognition and wireless updates also make setup and everyday use easier. I also appreciate the long list of service functions. Oil resets, ABS bleeding, throttle adaptation, battery registration, steering-angle calibration, EPB service, and other procedures can save a lot of trips to the shop when your particular vehicle supports them. One thing I would not take literally is the idea that every advertised function works on every vehicle. **Coding, active tests, hidden-feature changes, and reset functions vary heavily by make, model, year, and control module.** That is normal with advanced scan tools, but it is worth understanding before buying. The two years of included updates are also a nice benefit, and I like that the scanner continues working afterward with the software already installed. **Overall:** This is a very capable diagnostic platform for someone

My recommendation is to dive into the settings before deploying this device for first use. You'll find everything from metric/imperial selection to the shop email and street address. Can you use it out of the box? Yes, but setting it up and running an update will make your experience smoother. Do yourself a favor and consider deleting diag modules for cars that aren't sold in your region, such as the Chinese domestic market vehicles. Those modules take up memory and they also clutter your selection menus. One thing that did catch my attention in the settings was a "subscription expiration" of a year from now. I couldn't tell exactly what it's a subscription for. Perhaps updates to vehicle diagnostics. But from the limited info onscreen I think it needs to be renewed through a Launch retailer. It's a big tablet and an even bigger storage case, so you probably won't be taking this out in the service truck every day. But when you do bring this out you'll be ready to tackle just about anything. Vehicle specific services include things like TPMS reset, power window and sunroof calibration, battery registration, and a vast assortment of others. Also included are the expected basics such as VIN retrieval, IM readiness, battery voltage readout, live data, and a comprehensive all-systems "health scan." Reports are exported as a kind of offline web page rather than a PDF, even when sent via email. The file extension is .mht and clicking on it opens it in the browser. This rugged tablet device includes a rubberized outer shell to protect it from impact, as well as a fold-out handle that helps steady the tablet on the vehicle steering wheel. Android software is reasonably up to date, easy to navigate, and didn't offer any noticeable lag. This tool is a great option for a busy professional and definitely offers more options than most shadetree DIYers are likely to ever need.

Its biggest advantage is full-system access. It can scan modules beyond the engine, including the transmission, ABS, airbags, body-control module, HVAC, battery-management system, TPMS, and other available vehicle systems. Live data can be viewed and graphed, with up to eight data parameters displayed together. The bidirectional controls are especially useful. Instead of merely reading codes, the scanner can command supported components such as cooling fans, fuel pumps, injectors, lights, door locks, valves, and ABS functions. This makes it much easier to distinguish an electrical or control problem from a failed component. A solid and very advanced OBD reader
Awesome tool for anyone that has a shop or just multiple cars for hobby, etc. This tool is easy to connect to wifi for updating and setting up right off the bat. It comes in a durable carry case, and the scan tool itself is pretty solid. The software updates are easy to do, and this has just about everything you need to reset or reprogram on your car computer. This won't reprogram the WHOLE computer of a car and won't flash the OEM ECU. It will literally do most jobs, though, from lights, tires, sensors, and brake stuff, all that jazz. It also isn't specific for a thing electric cars have; if you are looking for electric car-specific stuff, you might want to buy the EV version. Versatile in everything it does, so in that case it is well worth the price when suitable for those needs and your vehicle.

Powerful Scanner with a Lot of Professional Features
I bought this scanner because I wanted something more capable than a basic code reader, and I’ve been really impressed with what it can do. The 7 inch touchscreen is clear and responsive, and navigating through the different vehicle systems is pretty straightforward. My favorite feature is the bidirectional control because I can actually test components like fans and pumps instead of just reading trouble codes. The full system scan and live data have also been very helpful when I’m trying to narrow down the cause of a problem. Maintenance operations are plenty, so I will be able to perform things such as oil reset, battery registration, ABS bleed, among others at home. Of course, there is a lot to learn about the tool, and different operations are available according to the particular car that needs to be checked, but I believe it is quite a powerful diagnostic device and it is well worth its money.
