Fantastic audio, great camera, and genuinely useful AI features
TL;DR: Impressive smart glasses with excellent open-ear audio, a very capable camera, useful Meta AI features, and strong battery life. The touch volume control can be overly sensitive, but these have quickly become something I reach for regularly. I have been using these Ray-Ban Meta Aviator Gen 3 glasses for everything from listening to music and watching YouTube to taking photos, recording videos, and using the AI features. I am really impressed with how much they have managed to fit into something that still looks like a regular pair of sunglasses. The audio is probably one of my favourite features. It sounds fantastic considering there are no earbuds involved, and I really like being able to listen to music or YouTube while still hearing what is happening around me. Battery life has also been excellent for my use. My longest audio session was around six hours before the battery was getting really low. The camera has been another highlight. Being able to take a photo or video of exactly what I am looking at without pulling out my phone is incredibly convenient. The listing says it has a 12 MP camera with up to 3K video recording, after a bit of a learning curve, overall I have been happy with the quality of photos. So saying, low-light photos take a little more care. I have found that I need to hold my head still for an extra moment while the camera gathers enough light. I learned that the hard way after ending up with several blurry darker photos. Video quality is good too, although the recorded audio behaves a little differently than I expected. My own voice comes through very clearly, while other people and surrounding sounds tend to be quieter. Depending on what I am recording, that can either be useful or limiting. The controls are convenient once you get used to them. There are physical controls along with touch controls on the side for things like playback and volume. The volume adjustment is probably my biggest complaint because I find it overly sensitiv

The Ray-Ban Meta Aviator combines a classic design with some genuinely useful smart features. The dark green polarized lenses look understated but distinctive, and the charging case is very well made. It also provides extra battery life, which is a big plus. The glasses are a little too large for my face, although I have a relatively small face, so this may be a personal fit issue rather than a problem with the design itself. Outdoors in bright sunlight, the polarized lenses are very comfortable. You can still look at your phone screen while wearing them, although you may notice some colorful reflections on the display. **Setup and compatibility** I didn't read the manual. Instead, I installed the Meta AI app on my phone and followed its instructions to pair the glasses, which was surprisingly straightforward. Ray-Ban's compatibility information lists Apple, Google, and Samsung phones as supported devices. Since I use an Android phone from another manufacturer, I was initially worried that it might not work. Fortunately, pairing was successful, and everything I tested worked without any problems. That was a very pleasant surprise. **Camera and video quality** The camera is quite impressive. I've been happy with both the photos and videos I've taken. Even in outdoor environments with strong contrasts between light and shadow, or when moving from bright outdoors into a relatively dim indoor space, the video does a good job of balancing the exposure. I also saw reviews claiming that the video footage was square, but I haven't encountered that issue. My videos have all been vertical rectangles. I wonder whether those reviewers accidentally enabled a Meta AI setting that automatically crops parts of the footage when a hat or hair obstructs the camera. Videos default to 1080p, with 3K available as an option. One limitation is that each recording can be no longer than three minutes, which may be restrictive for longer activities. **Audio quality** The built-in speakers sou
Rayban meta aviator style black glasses - Do you want sunglasses only?
I’m not 100% okay with giving every permission possible to third party companies when it comes to AI, so I can’t comment on all the functionality of these glasses due to not giving all the permissions possible (ie: I’m not letting it into my photo gallery, or to access my contacts.) However I’ll get into this from the surface and go deeper: 1. Packaging is sleek; the glasses case acts as the charging vessel much like the case for AirPods charges the AirPods. It’s got a bit more weight to it than a regular raybans case due to that, but from the outside doesn’t look like anything different than usual raybans cases 2. Weight is basically just like a heavier quality sunglasses frame. If you’re used to cheaper sunglasses then these will feel heavier, but when comparing to other raybans frames these are only ever so slightly heavier and not uncomfortable on the wears vs regular glasses. 3. Glasses are true to the photos, with a slight aviator style to them. They fit my face with an oversized look; I usually wear frames of approx 130mm. They fit my husband’s face flatteringly, he usually wears a frame more of a 150mm width. On my ears they still felt reasonably secure without being at risk of falling off 4. Functionality is reasonably intuitive and simple. You have to download the meta AI app to use the AI functionality. You open them up, connect to your phone through Bluetooth, and then the app setup walks you through giving permissions necessary. You can say no to what you want. To import photos you take, you have to connect to wifi on your phone, and then the images and videos will show up on the app and in your regular photo gallery as well. 5. The AI works well. More of a gimmick for most situations, but translates surprisingly well when viewing something in a different language and you just ask “Hey meta what does this say?” for example. 6. Photos and videos were good quality, comparable to iPhone camera. Videos are similar to a go pro. You can’t change the orientati
