This is a brilliant device for the money
FiiO BR15 R2R, it's alive! It's a DAC awakening!
I was curious to try a R2R DAC after having a recent ES9039Q2M DAC (though better sounding than an old ES9018 one) but didn't feel like a huge awakening. Looked around at a few before narrowing down to FiiO Warmer, then K13 R2R and finally settling on BR15 R2R (also compared several reviews between siblings) Talk about bang for the buck and having a DAC awakening! The delivery of sound is very natural, non-fatigue, highly detailed analog sound, warmer, more life-like than standard chip-based DACs. Running in Non-Oversampling (NOS) mode further yields a deeper, larger and expansive soundstage with naturally organic and layered texture. Should have tried R2R earlier and not be a die-hard delta-sigma user for so many years. There's substantial product info/doc in standard English and the effort in designing and executing this R2R implementation is commendable. Use the balanced XLR output if your amplification stage allows. Also, please ditch the AC mode. Go DC, pair a budget super cap power filter and a reliable budget 5V-2A USB power adapter and cables. It will definitely bring the audiophile experience to a whole new level. A small price to pay for substantial improvement. The BR15 R2R is a great budget-phile starter DAC. It will pit well against lots of budget, mid-price and even some pricier ones.
high quality r2r dac/preamp/receiver - great value and great performance
this is a fantastic digital all in one. i got it functioning as a preamp/dac to aiyima t20 tube buffer/preamp to aiyima a20 amp via xlr as a full powerful mini av system. i set the proper volumes on those two units and use the fiio remote to control volume, input, eq, etc for everything. the build is really nice and elegant in the same fashion as some apple products. - cd player connected to br15 optical - mac mini connected to br15 usb c (sending up to 192 networked hi res music via qobuz connect using midi settings on mac mini) - chromecast connected to hdmi samsung monitor connected to br15 via bluetooth (gives me a chromecast connect for qobuz too) - tv/chromecast signal sounds fantastic and clear (turntable connected fosi x5 phono preamp to aiyima t20 rca in) all lead to aiyima a20 amp feeding kef q1 metas and 1 svs sb 1000 pro sub using built in hi pass and i still have one more slot for a coaxial connection (in or out) and an optical out. haven't even gotten to the two rca outs which can be fed to additional dacs or amps (for instance, i can create a small 5.1 system with active speakers as surrounds and one mono amp for a center channel speaker). can be a little tricky figuring out and getting used to the large variety of possible connections, but it's a powerhouse for such a small unit. super rich in features with lotrs of color choices, very good factory eq presets and manual preset capabilities. the sound is great - very clear, wide staging and stereo separation, and depth. perhaps slightly on the brighter side (could also be the kef q1s), but not nowhere near harsh or fatiguing. >>>> i don't know what that "randy savage" guy in these reviews is on handing out sloppy ratings for this product, but it sounds like has an apple/iphone problem with their proprietary connections and cables, which that has nothing to do with this receiver's great performance and capabilities. you can't blame this product and give it poor ratings for one's frustration over the aw
Great sounding dac with lots of features for entry level price
So far I really really like this DAC. It has some pretty nice features, and from what I can tell so far, seems to sound better to me than some of my more expensive dacs. It automatically goes into pairing mode when it can't connect via Bluetooth. That's pretty convenient. In depth menus with a lot a settings to tinker with, and you can turn the lights on the faceplate and around the knobs off independently of each other.
