Absolutely beautiful display, for a very reasonable price
Beautiful picture, deep blacks and intense light. Playing the Indiana Jones game, when I came out of a dark pyramid into the afternoon desert sun, I was actually stunned by the difference! And at 240hz it is on par with top of the range gaming monitors that cost more than twice as much... As long as your PC can handle 240hz!
Perfect!
I wanted this monitor and I had to save money to get it. I was scared that it might be a scam but it is Not A Scam! It is 4k, it does 240 and the response time is fantastic.
Fantastic monitor
My samsung OLED monitor broke recently and I didn`t want another oled because they are too fragile. I was concerned with the black levels coming from an oled but I have to say this monitor is better in basically everything. Sure, the OLED one had better blacks and if you have them next to each other you can clearly see it but that is not the way you are going to use your monitor. Also, if you don`t plan on just game on it you will find the mini led much better when doing office, excel or any other use that is not entertainment. It is a VA panel but is a 32 inch monitor so the viewing angles are not a problem since you are sitting in front of it. The monitor gets super bright and for 600£ is an absolute steal. Keep in mind that to do 240 Hz 4k with the display port included the stream will be compressed but I honestly cannot tell the difference. Just remember to enable g-sync or v-sync and limit your fps at 236ish
An excellent alternative to OLED
I had an AW2334DW that burned in after 6 months, then a nightmare dealing with Dell returns. They give you 3 year warranty but this means sending you a refurb screen that was previously returned for burn in. The G8 comes out of the box set low and you need to spend time setting it up and playing with the settings to get it to an acceptable level. When set up its about 95% the visuals of an OLED, but eliminates the pixel burn is so the downsides far outweigh the positives. Careful with the settings too, because it gets super bright in a dark room and will hurt your eyes if you set it to 100 brightness and contrast. OLED will always have the deep blacks and you cant compare that with this but you also have to risk the burn in. It's not worth it for me. The aspect ratio is far better than the ultrawide monitors for gaming. I believe this is the best monitor you can get, before the microled monitors become common.
Asus good as it gets before.....
This panel is literally about as good as it gets in terms of picture quality before you eventually make the move to OLED. I'm an OLED guy, owning two OLED TVs currently but had a few in the past. I haven't moved to OLED PC gaming panels yet due to them not providing anywhere near the protections against burn-in as there TV counterparts. So until that day, this is more than good enough and in some ways better as it's considerably brighter than those oled panels. It's worth noting to any new buyer that there is an update available for this panel which clears up issues around scanlines etc so please ensure you update. As for your basics, this panel excels in fast motion, strong colours, and very good almost OLED like performance in dark areas owning to the MINI LEDs and the backlight control (leave in Auto). The control panel is the usual samsung affair, with all the controls needed. Ensure you turn on the VRR option to link the panel refresh speed to the GPUs refresh rate. Overall I am impressed with this panel, and highly recommend it to those who are on the cusp of buying a high end panel but not wanting to risk OLED just yet. This is the panel to get. Now, there's some bad news but that may be a one off or depend on the supplier. I recently bought another panel yet this time it arrived in terrible condition and had to be returned. This has become a bit of a well known issue across Amazon recently were returned items are being sent out as new. Hopefully this practice does not continue. Either way, this panel is very very good, and will keep up with anything you throw at it (not literally at it....you get what I mean). I'm sure the new model will be along shortly, but this is a good one to get before it shoots back up to £1400.
